Time for Change: Campaign for an Independent Green Thanet MP and Ramsgate Mayor

It was the annual meeting of RTC on Wednesday. The one meeting of the year when they have to explain and justify themselves to the public. Awful as you’d expect. They know nothing. They do nothing. I attended and these was c.40 other people there – and only c.6 of the 16 RTC councillors. Awful. Just awful. A desperate attempt from Mayor green to limt questions to RTC only – given most of them are TDC councillors too and every point he made blaming TDC. One public presentation on Pleasurama from Friends of Ramsgate Seafront even referred to this feeble doublehatter wriggle. The minutes were provided – form the meeting 12 months ago. Just embarrassing with nobody being able to remember the points and nothing done anyway. I moved they be rejected as incompetent but it was passed with c.6 votes and the rest of the public remaining silent. Kent is failing. Time for Change at the May elections for KCC councillors and Rmasgate Mayor: 1. Directly-elected Leader: Sack Carter - no more West Kent leaders elected for all Kent by their Party robots. No more Conservative overwhelming domination of the council: for 70 years a farce of democracy. 2. Votes at 16: make this the last election: County or District without 16 and 17 year olds voting. Agreed years ago by KCC but nothing done. And limit councillors over 70. 3. Full FOI: publish all KCC salaries, pensions, expenses, cars, buildings each month. 7 years since FOI and secrecy of civil service costs continues. £2BN of public funds without details. 4. Ethical investments: divest KCC tobacco, guns and booze investments with public pensions - what were they thinking? 5. Climate Change: the KCC pensioners need to get with it before their grandchildren are left with the consequnces of their failure: solar farms, zero landfill, plastic recycling, pollution site...

Happy World Cancer Day in Kent: Infratil, Cargolux, KLM, ACG, Thor - and the Environment Agency, CAA, Kent Police, HSE, Southern Water and KCC and TDC supposed to be protecting the public and doing nothing. Even KCC funding public pensions with public money for tobacco investments: a death every 6 seconds from smoking. The Manston monitors removed. Air pollution off the scale. The aquifer. Rare cancers. Thor mercury supposedly closed in 1988 but remaining open. The scandal of KCC's Toxic Three of Carter, King and Wild deliberately funding Manston airport development knowing of the problems. The EA and HSE and SW passing the blame between themselves. The Chief Constable scared to speak out or make arrests. Silent councillors and MP's. No cleanup. Time for Change Chief Constable. Infratil removing airport monitors and missing fines for years while using public funds. Banned aircraft and illegal overflights continue. KCC and TDC helping Infratil and covering over the problem and using public funds. Pleasurama and mystery British Virgin Islands tax havens with random blueprints and financing and council secrecy. MOD Fire deliberate and repeated chemical pollution. 0% salary frauds for senior civil servants and councillors. Lydd airport bungs detailed in High Court. And systemic and deliberate failures defraudng the ratepayer and endagering the public by the people paid to protect them: Southern Water sewage leaks. HSE and Thor mercury banned 20 years ago. Coastguard allowing a Torrey Canyon scenario off the Blue Flagbeaches. Environment Agency feeble protection of many of the above. Missing children in KCC care. Silence from our MP's, Toxic Three of Carter, King and Wild keeping their heads down...

To celebrate Anti-Corruption Day (http://www.un.org/en/events/anticorruptionday/ ), and the UK in the top 20 at number 17, here's my favourite Kent corruption scandals (worth remembering KCC rates itself as the best county council in UK with a £2Bn budget, oversight of other public servces with a national tax rate of c.42% and Kent GDP of c.£25Bn): 1. Infratil and TDC and the missing Manston fines and monitors - increasing both council and cancer. Several million quid in fines missing - and all for Infratil a company with higher profits than KCC's budget. 2. Pleasurama-Bungarama - a series of mysterious insurance fires and Ramsgate Labour's largest-ever donation of £25k and a Caribbean tax haven company that's never built anything. 3. Southern Water - not just shit in the sea but in the water supply and water pumps. Surely they should be called Southern Cholera? And the best bit: siphoning off any public claims to their insurance company loss-adjustors to maintai...

If Obama’s first foreign visit when elected in 2008 was Germany then the choice of South East Asia also poses few surprises for his second term. A brief 6 hour visit marked the first Presidential visit to Burma in an attempt to seal the reforms of the last year by Burma’s military government including the release of Aung San Suu Kyi now an MP. And a trip to Thailand reiterated the importance of South East Asia for trade and investment: the latter growing at 11% almost double the pace of China. While the first ever Presidential visit to Cambodia is against the backdrop of encouraging greater democracy and human rights as part of the ASEAN Summit.
